Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). Within two years she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist of the 1988 presidential debates in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her role to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including arms control the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal and went on numerous trips along with the president Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
